  20. Well, I spoke with John Hicks a little bit and he said that maybe I should 
  21. talk with you. I have debated it for a while and I guess I'll just take the 
  22. plunge. My name is Bill Skiles and I think I may have had an experience. I 
  23. am not going to say that I was Abducted or anything for sure but I have been 
  24. reading your messages and I feel that you can ask me your questions and 
  25. maybe I can put this thing to rest.

  27. I have had several sightings of UFO's since I was a kid and used to be 
  28. interested in them as a kid. I forgot all about them until about two years 
  29. ago. I had a sighting about that time. I didn't think too much about it but, 
  30. I went on about my business. Well, last summer, I went down to the 
  31. Everglades here in Florida. I had the usual day that one has on an airboat. 
  32. Just good fun. That night, I was having a hard time falling asleep because 
  33. of the humidity. As I lay there, tossing and turning, I was not asleep. My 
  34. wife was lying asleep next to me and our foster some on the bunk across the 
  35. way. Both of them were asleep. I just lay there and tried to settle down, I 
  36. has my eyes closed. Suddenly I felt or heard someone in the room. I opened 
  37. my eyes or maybe one eye I can't remember, but I saw three (3) figures, or 
  38. robes or some kind of cloth on three figures float or glide past my bed. I 
  39. can not recall any heads or faces. Yes, it was pretty dark, no lights on but 
  40. I should have been able to see there faces. Anyway what I did see was a very 
  41. bright green-blue ball of light that was on the tip of a stick or (like a 
  42. pointing stick) with a ball of light about the size of a cigarrett cherry. I 
  43. can't really describe this. Let's see. Maybe twice the size of a cigarrett 
  44. cherry. (I forgot to tell you, I had turned around to where my head was at 
  45. the foot of the bed because that's where the fan was.) Anyway, this light 
  46. floated down past me to where the head of the bed was and stopped for a 
  47. second. But then it came back and stopped DIRECTLY in front of my eyes. I 
  48. had the impression that it was looking for me. What was strange to me is 
  49. that I just lay there, immobile, not moving. I remember having the thought 
  50. that I will just lay here and maybe "they" won't know I'm awake. But, that's 
  51. crazy, cause normally I would say, who is it! I would get up, I would be 
  52. startled! Nope, I just lay there like a kid (I'm 38) like a kid thinking if 
  53. I lay real still it will be all right. Anyway, That's it. That's all I 
  54. remember. The next morning my wife was acting very strange. She was almost 
  55. in a panic to leave the place. You would have to know her. She is never in a 
  56. panic. I've seen her handle very explosive kids (We're theraputic foster 
  57. parents), I've seen here de-esculate  kids that I was afraid to get too 
  58. near. She doesn't scare easy. But that morning she made us leave a day 
  59. earlier than we had planned. She was scared of something, although she said 
  60. she wanted to check on her elderly grandmother. I just don't buy it.
  61. The reason that I want to talk with you or send messages is because since 
  62. then I have been reading some books on this subject. (I know I probably 
  63. messed up any accurate analysis, I've filled my mind up some). But at any 
  64. rate I was reading about Betty and Barney Hill and I just thought that I 
  65. would check my body out one night a couple months ago. I found a scar that 
  66. I've never had before, It is about 5" and runs from my groin area up around 
  67. my thigh. I have never had any surgery unless you count tonsills. I am kinda 
  68. scared about this. That is to say, If it is a scar. (Could be a stretch mark 
  69. but the wife says, uh uh, no way it's a scar. I'm too scared to go find out 
  70. and anyway where could I go. (Ahem, excuse me Doctor could you tell me if 
  71. this is a scar, I don't remember any surgery, sounds kinda nuts). I was 
  72. gonna wait until I found out for sure about the scar, before I bothered you 
  73. Dr. Jacobs but It's gettin to me. I feel kinda violated and angry and like 
  74. what gives them the right! That kinda stuff. So, I don't have space to go 
  75. into the other sightings now (several) since I was a kid. My sister 
  76. remembers some too. But maybe you can clear it all up and tell me that it 
  77. was just in my head. Maybe just an active imagination after reading a couple 
  78. books. I'm not comfortable at all right now. Can you help me? Please don't 
  79. brush me off right now as I haven't been able to talk to anyone. At least 
  80. wait until you find out that I'm really basically normal. Thanks for your 
  81. time.

  83. P.S. I am usually pretty stable, yes I do have other pressures right now, 
  84. ex-wife suing for 30,000 sort of stuff. But I've never been known to have 
  85. serious problems (mentally). Don't drink, no drugs. Not into New Age or any 
  86. religion. Don't much like church. Do believe in God. That's all I can think 
  87. of. Oh, very happily married. Sorry to be so long winded. Bill Skiles

  134. I am currently examining an x-ray photograph sent to me by Steve
  135. Jones of Elverta, California, which exhibits a possible implant
  136. residing within a living subject.
  137.  
  138. The image measures approximately 2.5mm in diameter, and contains
  139. six barb-like projections extending roughly .75mm from the
  140. apparently spherical surface. The barbs are equidistant from each
  141. other, at angles of about 60 degrees. The object appears to lie at
  142. the upper edge of the pelvis, in the vicinity of the spleen.

  144. My question is, does anyone know of any reports of a similarly
  145. configured implant, and if so, could you please cite complete
  146. references to specific cases.

  181.  As for Jacobs, his book is provocative to say the least...

  185.  He develops a generic scenario for "real" abductions, and is
  186.  careful to distance himself and the abduction phenomena from other
  187.  aspects of Ufology, especially "contactees" (whom he generally
  188.  ridicules based on the more flamboyant and publicity-seeking).  I
  189.  think abductees and contactees are two sides of the same coin, but
  190.  Jacobs tries to present abductions as a relatively new and perhaps
  191.  unique phenomena.  Mostly, this is an understandable attempt to
  192.  focus attention on it and study it in its own terms, to show that
  193.  there is a physically real phenomenon involving non-human entities.
  194.  But there are some strongly non-physical or paraphysical elements in
  195.  the scenario he develops, and numerous psychological aspects he
  196.  discards or glosses over to emphasize the physicality.
  197.  
  198.  Two points come to mind -- folklore and stigmata (and physical
  199.  effects found in some multiple personality cases, too).  He
  200.  discounts the folkloric element of abductions, on the one hand to
  201.  assert that they are =not= urban folklore. Fine.  But he discards
  202.  possible traditional folkloric parallels because the individuals in
  203.  his cases are simply not storytellers, that they aren't connected to
  204.  the evolving body of folklore in any direct way, and don't seek
  205.  publicity for their experiences.  But books like his and Hopkins',
  206.  (let alone the upcoming TV version of Intruders) inevitably generate
  207.  folklore, and are inevitably linked to the evolving process he tries
  208.  to avoid.  And he overlooks the possibilty that traditional folklore
  209.  may have grown from half-recalled abduction experiences, or the
  210.  cover memories he says the "entities" routinely plant.  In fact,
  211.  manipulating a culture's folklore may be a more powerful, more
  212.  subtle and long-lasting, tool than manipulating newspaper headlines.
  213.  
  214.  He emphasises the extreme mental control the "entities" have over
  215.  the abductees during the process -- they can play the human nervous
  216.  system like a piano, perhaps even re-tune it.  My own thoughts keep
  217.  coming back to that aspect. For one thing, how can he say for sure
  218.  that the scenario he's uncovered isn't itself a planted memory?
  219.  
  220.  He rightly points out that "normal" cases of stigmata occur in
  221.  people with high levels of conscious, religious belief, yet
  222.  abductees develop physical symptoms (scars, rashes) without any
  223.  conscious belief-system.  The deep mental manipulation involved
  224.  makes me wonder if "belief-free" stigmata could be generated.  I've
  225.  read of people having allergic reactions under hypnosis without an
  226.  allergen present, and developing blisters from objects that aren't
  227.  hot.  And persons with multiple personality disorder can have
  228.  allergic reactions when an allergic personality is dominant.
  229.  
  230.  He may be correct that folklore, multiple personalities, and
  231.  stigmata (and the many other non-pysical explanations he rejects)
  232.  can't explain abductions in themselves as they are presently
  233.  understood.  But there may be psycho-physical mechanisms involved in
  234.  those that are also involved in abductions.
  235.  
  236.  He states outright near the beginning that the entities intentions
  237.  are "reproductive" in nature, involving interspecies genetic
  238.  experimentation. But the scenario he develops still strikes me as
  239.  some sort of "Abduction Theater", and that the entities intentions
  240.  are more likely psychological than biological or genetic. The
  241.  physical examinations may be important for the psychological
  242.  results of being so examined. The whole experience may be
  243.  preparation for the "messages" and the psychological aftereffects
  244.  (for the abductees and the culture in general).
  245.  
  246.  Though to finally answer your question, Bubba, he doesn't really
  247.  cover the "messages" in any detail, in part because I think he's
  248.  afraid of having his people sound like "contactees", and because
  249.  he's more interested in the medical and biological motifs.  The
  250.  "presentations" abductees get after the physical exams -- which
  251.  include general warnings of ecological or nuclear disaster -- are
  252.  treated sparingly if at all.
  253.  
  254.  Biologist Richard Dawkins (I hope I have his name right!) came up
  255.  with the concept of the "meme" as the human cultural equivalent of
  256.  the "gene", and proposed that memetic evolution was now more
  257.  important to the human species than genetic evolution. "Memes" are
  258.  basically ideas and beliefs shared by groups of humans, and
  259.  arrangments of memes are what define differences in human cultures.
  260.  And "memes" compete as "genes" do.
  261.  
  262.  Is the genetic motif a "theatrical" metaphor for the memetic
  263.  manipulation that's actually going on?
